• Finding Houghton/Hancock

Directions to Best Western-Franklin Square Inn (start and registration): The Franklin Square Inn is located on the east end of downtown Houghton. If approaching from US-41 south, just stay on US-41 past Michigan Tech. When you pass Michigan Tech, the highway will narrow to two lanes in a residential area. It will then turn into a one-way as you enter downtown Houghton. When that happens, look to your right to see the hotel.

If approaching from M-26 (i.e. from the west), stay on M-26 as you approach downtown Houghton. M-26 will cross the bridge to Hancock. You do NOT want to do that. Take US-41 south. It will be one-way. When it turns into a two-way, you will have the option to take US-41 north. Do that. The hotel will be on your right.

Directions to Portage Health System hosiptal: Take US-41 north across the bridge into Hancock. Follow US-41 through Hancock and up the hill. When you near the crest of the hill and the Quincy Mine area, you will come to a yellow caution light at the intersection with Campus Drive (note: there is also a yellow caution light part-way up the hill at Pat's IGA--don't turn there). Turn left onto Campus Drive and the hospital is about a mile on your left.

Directions to Mont Ripley: Take US-41 north across the bridge and turn right on M-26. Follow M-26 east approsimately 1/2 mile. Mont Ripley will be on your left.

The cross-country races start at the Best Western-Franklin Square Inn in Houghton, proceed through downtown Houghton, over the bridge and along the Hancock waterfront. It crosses M-203 west of Hancock and enters the Maasto Hiihto trail system. The race ends at Portage Health System in Hancock.
